Marriott 01/20/09
So at the Marriott this week I was supposed to be in the kitchen but I was sick so I was moved to the front desk . While at the front desk I work with Camile. It was really slow , I think I only seen like three customers, so we watched the inauguration on CNN. But one customer came back after checking out, because when he was looking over his bill he noticed that he was not billed for a movie. Even though it was honest and nice of him to come back i think it was just a little stupid of him. I mean who in their right mind goes back to be charged for something. I could see going back if you were over charged but he wasn't , it was like he was trying to throw away money. But overall yesterday was fun even though it wasn't very productive.

I missed marriot so i writing about work
I missed Marriott for the last few times . So I am going to write about work . At work I Do pretty much nothing until we close. every now and then a customer coms in and i have to make tem a sandwich or get them soup but thats about it. At closing we have to break down the whole store . We have to bring the produce from outside and wrap up the deli case . I have to take out the garbage and some one has to wash the dishes. But it really only takes like 20 minutes to do every thing and they give use 3 hours to do it. That means that who ever is working just stands around and watches t.v. or plays on their cellphone. But that is about it .

And once again i was at the front desk so i pretty much did the same things as last week. The only thing that was different this time was that I got to go to the airport with the bell stand guy whose name is will. Other than that everything was the same. I still had fun and i still liked being there but it was the same.

My class experince last year
So since I missed going to the Marriott last week I was assigned to write about my experience there last year when I was in culinary.
So last year I got to work in the kitchen for 3 days a week for 4 weeks. The people there were really nice and extremely patient. I learned a lot from this guy mike and there was also a guy named will who also went to school at Capital region career and tech. I was able to work with him a few times while he was on the breakfast line. While working with him I would cut up all the things he would need for the rest day like vegetables like green and red peppers, tomatoes, purple onions, and cheese. I would also cut up things like ham and sausage.
While there we were also supposed to work in the cafĂ© but I really really didn’t want to so, they let me skip it and spend all my time in the kitchen. But later on I found out by not wanting to do that I missed out on getting tips but it really didn’t matter because I took the class to cook not wait tables.
While there I had to be in uniform. This consisted of a clean and white chef coat, a clean and white chef hat and black and white check pants. This was only the uniform for the people in the internship. Everyone else wore a chef coat and jeans or black pants. In the kitchen while I was there the head chef was also changing so the place was all messed up and very hectic. Many people that worked there during that time left or were leaving since they didn’t like the direction of the hotel. But actually I think it is a lot nice and better run now verse before.
Over all my time there was great. I learned from everyone around me and had a lot of fun. Each time I went I met a different person and learned something from each of therm. I liked how they treated us like employees and not kids on a fieldtrip. My experience was pretty much just awesome. I got to cook things that I had never heard of and probably never will cook again.
I would also like to say that this program can help a student really see what it is like to be a cook and help them prepare for the test at the end of the year . I know that the program helped me get ready for the test and by taking part in it I got a 98 on the test and was given a certificate for being an outstanding student and most improved.

Marroitt 10-21-08
So yesterday at the Marriott I was assigned to work with Colleen but she had to leave early to pick up her son because he was sick so I was transferred to the front desk. While I was at the front desk we choose the guests of the day and I got to see them use the computer to look people up. Other than that it was pretty uneventful except for all the people that showed up looking for other hotels since the Marriott really doesn't have a big sign out front.

First Week
Over the School year we will be going to the Marriott as part of an internship. As part of the first day we had an orientation day where we learned what to expect from the experience and what is expected from us. When we first sat down we were given a note pad, time card, name tag and pen for the day. Only the name tag and time card will be used for now on but all things were helpful. We were also given a C.A.R.E pamphlet that explained 20 things that we are expected to do. Also we played ice-breaking games that included bingo and a “who am I “ sheet. It reminded me of last year when i did another internship at the marriott for Culinary. It seemed more in dept this year and it seemed like this year is going to be alot diffrent . Good but diffrent.
Intro
Ok , so this is my first entry into this blog and there are some things that i am supposed to say . So first, My name is Samantha Finnegan and i am a senior at Bethlehem central high school. Second , i am also taking an Lmp course at capital region career and tech. And third , well for the third thing i am supposed to state some of my strengths and weaknesses . So for a strength i am a very good listener and I am willing at any point to step up and be the leader for any situation. My weakness would probably be that I have a short attention spand.
